What is the SOAR Program?
The SOAR Program is the foundation of Hearts & Habits Horizon LLC’s Adult I/DD Training & Development services. SOAR stands for Skills, Opportunity, Autonomy, and Readiness, reflecting the practical areas participants work on as they prepare for greater independence. Through structured instruction, guided practice, and community-based experiences, participants develop skills they can use in everyday life, at work, and within their communities.
Helping Participants Build Everyday Independence
Every participant enters the program with different strengths, interests, and support needs. Our training focuses on practical progress that can be applied in real-life situations while respecting each person’s individual goals.
- Participants strengthen independent living skills such as personal organization, meal preparation, money awareness, hygiene, and daily routines.
- Social communication skills are developed through guided conversations, teamwork, problem-solving activities, and community interactions.
- Pre-employment readiness helps participants understand workplace expectations, responsibility, punctuality, and professional behavior.
- Self-advocacy is encouraged by helping participants make choices, communicate their needs, and participate in planning their own goals.
How We Support Learning Every Day
Learning is most effective when participants have opportunities to practice new skills in meaningful situations.
- Individual and small-group instruction based on each participant’s learning needs.
- Hands-on activities that reinforce daily living, communication, and workplace skills.
- Community-based learning experiences that promote confidence and independence.
- Regular encouragement and practical feedback to help participants build new habits over time.
